PRESS RELEASE: B’way and TV Vet Anjali Bhimani Dons Her Tiara in Miss India America
Television actress and Broadway vet Anjali Bhimani is tearing it up in movie theatres with the female driven comedy “Miss India America” as Pinky Matthews, Five time pageant winner and current pageant organizer. The movie had its first festival screening at Cinequest in San Jose and has since continued to make the festival circuit, garnering awards and praise for the entire team.
“I’m so excited to be a part of this movie for so many reasons – it has so much heart and tells a story that transcends any cultural lines. I’m really proud of what we’ve made, and eager for audiences to get to see it.”
When asked about her character, Bhimani says “She takes her pageant very seriously…and she loves the girls so much and her enthusiasm is infectious. She’s definitely a ‘more is more’ kind of person, in every way. Think one of the Real Housewives of Mumbai as played by Jennifer Coolidge.”
Bhimani has been see by television audiences as Nina Patel on ABC’s hit show Modern Family as well as other shows such as Criminal Minds, Bones, Necessary Roughness, Law and Order:SVU, The Sopranos, Flight of the Conchords, and many more. She starred on Broadway as Rani in Bombay Dreams and in Mary Zimmerman’s Metamorphoses, which garnered a Tony nomination for Best Play in 2002. She has performed in theatres all over the country, including the Manhattan Theatre Club, Second Stage, the Goodman Theatre, the Steppenwolf Theatre, the Mark Taper Forum, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Seattle Repertory Theatre, and more.
